Meet the Man Behind the One-Man Cabinet Company

Cabinet Maker Sketch

How Dave's Joint came to cabinetry.

Dave Johns started out his professional life in a northern California retail lumber yard, where he worked his way up from a loading clerk during his high school years to a regional purchasing agent after an enlistment in the Marine Corps.  During those years, he learned about wood inside and out, from harvest to manufacture, picking up certifications in everything from lumber grading to hardwood floor installation.  At the same time, he spent his off-duty hours learning to build furniture and cabinetry.  What started out as a hobby grew into a passion, and when he relocated to Arizona in 2010, he saw an opportunity to turn his passion into a business.  Dave's Joint Custom Woodworking first opened its doors in Cottonwood, Arizona, where Dave built everything from custom chess boards to custom stereo cabinets.  As his business matured, he found a niche in building fully custom kitchen and bath cabinetry with an attention to detail few could match. By 2019, his operations had outgrown the Cottonwood starter workshop and he relocated to a state-of-the-art wood shop in Camp Verde.

Dave's Joint is a one-man operation focused solely on creating cabinets that meet its owner's exacting standards for perfection.  Most hours of the day (and sometimes into the evening) you will find Dave hard at work in his shop, creating the custom woodwork on which he prides himself.  As a result, his business is limited to building custom cabinetry on his shop premises, and leaving it to others to deliver and install his products.

Not sure if his cabinetry is what you're looking for?  Make an appointment to let Dave show you around his shop, where he can explain his process, provide samples of his work, and explain the workmanship that goes into his cabinets.  Bring him your measurements and requirements and he can help you choose wood species, door styles, and other tweaks you might need to fine-tune your project.  He also offers a wide selection of accessories and pullouts (e.g. Rev-a-Shelf), under-cabinet lighting, and cabinet hardware to complete your project.
